<ul>
<li>He changed personal computers from a hobby to a practical reality with the original Apple computer.</li>
<li>He revolutionized graphic design and brought forth desktop publishing with the Macintosh.</li>
<li>The iMac brought the Internet to many people for the first time.</li>
<li>MP3 players existed before the iPod, but the iPod made playing MP3&#8242;s easy.</li>
<li>The iPhone was many people&#8217;s first smartphone.</li>
<li>Finally, the iPad made tablets practical and easy to use without a stylus.</li>
</ul>
<p>People view him as a hero because he went from nothing to being one of the richest men in the world, all the while letting people do computing tasks they weren&#8217;t able to before.</p>
<p>Most people don&#8217;t know that Jobs was the <a href="http://www.people.com/people/package/article/0,,20534714_20535084,00.html">son of a Syrian immigrant</a> named Abdulfattah John Jandali. He was adopted into a working-class California family. His birth sister was <a href="http://blog.lib.uiowa.edu/hardinmd/2010/02/11/steve-jobs-mona-simpson-a-story-too-good-not-to-tell/">writer Mona Simpson</a>, also considered a genius in her field.</p>

<p>This just in: <strong>Steve Jobs</strong> quits <strong>Apple</strong>! The <strong>Wall Street Journal</strong> has the <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/2011/08/24/steve-jobs-resigns-as-apple-ceo/">story</a>. </p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the entire text of his short <strong>press release</strong>:</p>
<blockquote><p>
August 24, 2011–To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:</p>
<p>I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.</p>
<p>I hereby resign as <strong>CEO</strong> of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.</p>
<p>As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.</p>
<p>I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.</p>
<p>I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.</p></blockquote>
<p>His chosen successor would be <strong>Tim Cook</strong>. Not having been in the spotlight, not a lot is know about him at this time. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Cook">His Wikipedia page</a> is pretty sparse, a good measure of his anonymity. He&#8217;s worked for <strong>Compaq</strong> and <strong>IBM</strong> before coming to Apple and outsourcing all manufacturing to <strong>China</strong>.</p>
<p>What does this mean for the future of Apple, the iPhone, and the iPad?</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s <strong>Steve Jobs</strong> unveiling his creation:</p>

(<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poaUbmdUcCY">Direct link</a>)</p>
<p>Jobs goes into <strong>further detail</strong> about the operation of the iPad here:<br />
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="560" height="340" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9eVCFXxgn2M&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="340" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9eVCFXxgn2M&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>(<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eVCFXxgn2M">Direct link</a>)</p>
<p>Again and again, Jobs mentions <strong>holding</strong> the Internet in your <strong>hands</strong> and being able to interact with the web simply by <strong>touching</strong> it. He says the <strong>iPad</strong> is more <strong>initimate</strong> than a <strong>laptop</strong>, and more functional than a <strong>smartphone</strong>.</p>
<p>He plays a <strong>Hi-def YouTube</strong> videos on the iPad in his demo.</p>

<p>Adobe: <a href="http://www.techcrunch.com/2010/01/27/adobe-flash-ipad/">Flash Apps</a> will run on the iPad, even full screen at some point</p>
<p>The <strong>iPad</strong> won&#8217;t feature <strong>SD</strong> or <strong>USB</strong> ports. Rather, you&#8217;ll have to buy <a href="http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/01/27/apple-has-a-solution-for-the-ipads-missing-sd-card-slot-and-usb-port-adapters/">adaptors</a>.</p>

<p>And three reason&#8217;s <a href="http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/27/three-reasons-the-ipad-wont-kill-amazons-kindle/">it won&#8217;t</a>.</p>

<p>Is the iPad going to be a great <a href="http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/30/is-the-ipad-a-kids-best-friend/">children&#8217;s toy</a>? The NY Times thinks so because <strong>children</strong> are so <strong>tactile</strong>.</p>
<p>And does the iPad sound the <a href="http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/27/is-the-ipad-the-finaal-nail-in-the-gps-coffin/">death knell</a> of the <strong>standalone GPS</strong>?</p>
<p><a href="http://www.johnchow.com/my-take-on-the-ipad-it-rocks/">John Chow</a> loves the Apple iPad, but some readers aren&#8217;t so sure.</p>
