It’s a big annoyance trying to save YouTube videos. Why would you want to save one? Well for one thing, it can be a lot more convenient to play it from a desktop multimedia player. For some users it takes up less CPU than the browser-based Flash player, important for phone users. Finally, if a video’s important to you, it’s good to be able to have a local copy before YouTube bans it for some or another reason.

SaveTube is a really easy way to download YouTubes. You just add a bookmarklet to your bookmark bar, click on it, and you get a download link allowing you to directly download the video in various formats. No Java, no going to another website to perform the download.

Remember GeoCities? It was the the dark underbelly of the Worldwide Web, where you could get a free space to spout off on whatever you wanted to. It was Greenwich Village as compared to the New York Times building. When you went there you were sure to exercise your synapses, reading about all sorts of threads linking various historical events together.

Later, Yahoo bought it. Still later, they decided to shut it down. Fortunately, someone cared enough to mirror it, and the result is OOCities. Knock yourself out.

Zombo.com – Flash-based Intro Parody

Back in the late 1990s, there was a parade of websites using Adobe Flash to show audio/visual introductions that both took a long time to load and a long time to play. It was sort of cute the first time around, but it quickly got annoying the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th times you accessed a site.

Zombo.com was conceived as a joke and parody of all that. It’s nothing but a Flash-based introduction that shows Zombo.com text, some rotating balls, and a guy saying “Welcome to Zombocom“.
