Linux.com reports that OpenOffice will offer PDF editing in the next version.

Linux.com :: OpenOffice.org extension will add PDF editing

This is interesting in that OpenOffice has been in the forefront of PDF support: It offered “export to PDF” in previous versions, which was available in Microsoft Word only through third-party plugins.

What’s even more interesting is so-called “hybrid PDFs”, which embed the code of the source OpenOffice file, to allow round-trip editing.

Note that editing of existing non-hybrid PDFs only allows changing a line at a time. This method preserves formatting, but you wouldn’t want to use it to make wholesale changes. I think it would be useful to import PDFs as normal OpenOffice Write documents, which could then be reformatted into a new PDF if desired.

  1. This may not be the best place to request this, but I’m trying to find a pest management company in the pittsburgh region and have no method to find out who is the very best. I located this business that is really close to me and wished to see if anybody has any assessments on them. Priority Pest Control, 524 Ross St, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 – (412) 346-6413
